March Winner: Rachel DiVanno
Senior Elementary Education/iSTEM Major,
Environmental Sustainability Education Minor
Rachel completed her student teaching placement in Fall 2016. She is currently working at Bear Tavern Elementary School in Hopewell, NJ with the fourth grade classes. Rachel is doing research entitled “Enclothed Cognition.” This is a joint research study with North Carolina State University that looks at student identity in the science classroom. She visits the schools, interviews students, observes their classes and records the findings. Rachel is also actively involved as a counselor in a STEM camp in Newtown, CT over the summer. The camp is called “Design it, Build it, Launch it.” For two weeks in July students get to build rockets, catapults and problem solve. She has worked with the Newtown Board of Education for three years at this camp, and it is the highlight of her summer.
"I value Kappa Delta Pi because it provides opportunities to be in a space where like-minded individuals get to interact. I love talking about education, and KDP is a wonderful platform to have conversations about this field. Every member in the club holds similar values and I think that KDP is a support system for educators. It is a way for people to come together and inspire each other, especially during trying weeks."
We are so proud of you, Rachel!
